The Jeep Grand Cherokee was one of the first models that was introduced when the Jeep brand officially came to India back in 2016. It was the 4th generation of this SUV that was launched along with the SRT model. Being a CBU, it sold in miniscule numbers despite being a great product. We had driven it back then in its diesel avatar. Check out the review here. Now the 5th generation of the Grand Cherokee is here in India. Launched in 2022, a big highlight is that this model is now being locally assembled at the Ranjangaon facility near Pune. I finally got my hands on the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove it around for a week. What do I think of it? Read on.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior

Despite being in its 5th gen, the Grand Cherokee still retains its classic character in terms of looks, despite getting up there with modern styling elements. And it has street presence .. and how… Up front you get the trademark 7 slat Jeep grille along with slim rectangular LED headlamps connected by a chrome strip that runs across the grille. The chiseled front bumper also gets chrome elements. LED fog lamps are located in the front bumper. The boxy Jeep styling is visible when you look at the Grand Cherokee from the side. There are massive chunky 20 inch alloy wheels with 265/50 rubber that fill the wheel arches well. The Grand Cherokee lettering finds place on the front doors. A prominent shoulder line runs all the way from the edge of the headlamps to the edge of the tail lamps. The rear is simple in typical Jeep style. There are slim LED tail lamps with a Jeep logo at the centre of the tailgate. There’s a 4×4 badge on the left bottom and Limited badge on the right side. The Grand Cherokee is available in a single Limited trim only. The 2022 Grand Cherokee measures 4,914 mm in length, 1,979 mm in width, and 1,792 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,964 mm. It features a ground clearance of 215 mm. Overall the styling is very muscular especially when you compare it to its European rivals. I for one am a big fan of this design. Also the SUV is not without its share of Easter eggs. The rear right quarter glass features silhouettes of all generations of the Grand Cherokee while the left one has a Willy Jeep.
