2021 Tata Safari Interior
Step inside and you immediately notice the similarities to the Harrier, and that is not a bad thing. The dashboard layout is neat and the cabin gets a new two tone black and Oyster White theme. The top of the dash has a soft touch feel and there is Ashwood paneling all across. The seats get Oyster White perforated leather upholstery and while there is a premium feel, it will be a task to clean when it gets dirty or stained. The instrument cluster features a 7 inch TFT screen, the leather wrapped steering has good grip, is nice to hold and materials used in the cabin reek of quality. The 8.8 inch touchscreen for the infotainment system sits in the centre and gets the iRA connected car tech. More on that later. We would have liked the size of the touchscreen to be a bit bigger though. A 10.25 inch unit would be perfect in my opinion. There’s Android Auto, Apple Car Play and Navigation as well. Other features include automatic climate control, a sweet sounding 9 speaker JBL sound system with external amplifier, push button start, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, 6 way electric adjust for the driver’s seat, reverse camera, ambient mood lighting and a large panoramic sunroof that Tata Motors calls the Majestic Skydome. And I have to say it gives a super airy feeling to the cabin. Lots of storage space around as well like umbrella holders, mobile and coin holders, bottle holders in the doors, sunglass holders etc. Unlike the Harrier which has an aircraft style hand brake lever, the Safari gets an electronic parking brake and Auto Hold with the switches located on the centre console. There is no wireless charging pad though, no ventilated seats or 360 degree camera which is expected in flagship model in 2021. The display quality from the rear view camera leaves scope for improvement as well.
The Tata Safari comes with the iRA (Intelligent Real Time Assist) connected car technology. You get a host services and features that can be accessed through a smartphone app. Some of these features include Remote lock/unlock, remote lights on/off, Geo Fencing, Valet Mode, vehicle health diagnostics, locate my car, driving score, time fencing etc. The iRA can also receive over the air updates for newer features.
Coming to the boot space, there’s only 73 litres with all three rows up. You can of course drop down the third row seats in a 50:50 split to get more cargo space. The middle row can also be folded down and that will give you enough area to move a house.
