2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS Interior
As I mentioned before, you really have to climb into the GLS and once you do, it’s a very inviting interior in there. As you sit in the comfy chair like front seats, you cant help notice the bulges on the bonnet staring right at you from the front windshield. It really gives a sense of power. The twin 12.3 inch screens comprising of the digital instrument cluster and the touch screen infotainment sit prominently on the dashboard. The cabin is wrapped in very premium Artico leather and there’s wood grain on the dash as well. The switches are finished in brush metal which feel of very high quality and the four rectangular AC vents in the centre feel classy as well. The features list includes a panoramic sunroof, 5 zone climate control (includes 1 for the third row), a 13 speaker Burmester sound system, 64 colour ambient lighting, 11 USB charging points (type C) and a 360 degree camera to mention a few. The GLS gets the new MBUX infotainment system with Mercedes Me connected car features and the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant. The touchscreen graphics are sharp and very pleasing to the eyes, and apart from the voice assistant, it can be controlled via the touch pad on the centre console as well.
Now coming to the rear, lets talk about the second row first. And that’s actually where owners will spend most of their time in. The rear seats are almost throne like and very inviting indeed. The centre backrest folds down to double up as an armrest and features a wireless charging pad, cupholders and a tablet which you can use to control a number of functions of the MBUX infotainment. This can also be removed at the touch of a button, in case you want hand held operation. There’s legroom in abundance and there are those cushy pillows on the headrests just like you get in the S-Class. I just love them. And the back seat can be reclined too. The front passenger seat can also be controlled from behind. Just S-Class things you see. You also get electric sun blinds and can order the rear seat entertainment package as an option.
The second row electrically folds forward to give access to the third row. The seats themselves are comfortable and kids and medium sized adults wont complain. But if you want more legroom, the second row passenger will have to kindly adjust with you. That said, you do get your own climate control zone, cup holders and two USB charging points. Boot space with all three rows up is 355 litres which is quite a bit. Press a button to drop down the third and second rows and that gives you mega 2,400 litres of space. The air suspension can also be lowered for easy loading access.
