2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 Interior
Press the button on the key and the sound of the unlocking of the doors is pretty much like a rifle loading up to fire. And then you literally have to climb inside the G63. Once inside, the seating position gives you a high literally. The view is commanding and is enough to make you rub shoulders with that bus or truck driver next to you in traffic. Now coming to the interiors, they are quite a revelation and a break away from the G-Wagens of earlier vintage. The cabin spells luxury similar to high end Mercedes sedan levels. There are two 12.3 inch screens like in the S-Class, with one for the digital instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment system. The dashboard and the cabin features leather, brushed aluminum and carbon fibre along with Alcantara on the roof and is done up very tastefully. The AMG flat bottom steering wheel has superb finish and gets track pad controls for all the various functions including customizing the dials on the instrument cluster. The turbine design AC vents have a superb finish and the analogue clock in the centre adds a nice touch. The buttons for diff lock, all three of them are located between the AC vents on the centre console. Other features include a fantastic sounding 15 speaker Burmester sound system, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, satellite navigation and a regular size electric sunroof.
The seats on our test car featured black and red leather upholstery with contrast stitching matched with red seat belts. The large front seats are extremely comfortable and come with electric adjust, massage and heating and cooling functions. The seats have auto bolstering that hold you in place when taking a turn or hard cornering. While the back seat is definitely not where I want to be in a G63, there is no doubt there will be some who will be chauffeured around even in this tank. There’s good news for them though. Thanks to the longer wheelbase, there’s more space at the rear and the new G is much more comfortable than its predecessor. The rear passengers get their own climate control and vents and seats have good cushioning too. The rear back rest can also be reclined. However, rear seats only get heating function which is rather useless for our weather conditions. Cooled seats would have been a better option. The boot can take a whole lot of luggage for your weekend trips or road trip vacations.
