BMW Motorrad has launched all three variants, namely the Standard, Pro and Pro M Sport, of its popular supersport, the S1000 RR in India.
The latest generation in the 10-year-old legacy of this motorcycle is built on a redesigned ‘Flex’ spaceframe with lighter components that help it shed as much as 11 kgs in comparison to the outgoing model in the standard variant.
The S1000RR is powered by a 999cc inline 4-cylinder engine that is significantly lighter than the older engine and makes 207 hp at 13,500 RPM and 113 Nm of torque at 11,000 RPM. Deployment of ShiftCam technology enables variable valve timing, which improves performance throughout the rev range. The suspension duties are taken care of by a Marzocchi unit instead of the traditional Sachs. Similarly, the Brembo brakes have now been swapped for apparatus from Hayes.
A six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit is responsible for cornering ABS and dynamic traction control while driving modes can be selected by 6.5-inch TFT display. In addition to the Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race modes available on the Standard variant, the Pro and Pro M sport also get Pro driving modes called Race Pro 1. Race Pro 2 and Race Pro 3. The bike also gets a WBSK inspired swingarm.
It is available in two paint schemes, namely a monotone Racing Red and a striped Light White / Lupin Blue Metallic/ Racing Red.
The SS 1000 RR is priced as follows: (ex-showroom, pan India):
- SS1000 RR Standard: Rs. 18,50,000
- SS1000 RR Pro: Rs. 20,95,000
- SS1000 RR Pro M Sport: Rs. 22,95,000
At this price point, it goes against the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and Suzuki GSX R1000R in the low range and the Ducati Panigale V4 and V4S in the higher price range.
