2018 Hyundai Creta Facelift Engine and Performance
The 2018 Creta still features the same engine options as before. One can choose between a 1.4 litre diesel and 1.6 litre petrol and diesel engines. The 1.6 litre motors come with the option of a six speed manual or automatic gearboxes. Power figures are unchanged as well but the 1.6 diesel gets a slight tweak in torque delivery. While the earlier model delivered the 260 Nm of torque at 1900 – 2750 rpm, the facelift does the same 260 Nm between 1500 – 3000 rpm. Hyundai also says that the petrol engine is more fuel efficient by 3 percent and the diesel by 4 percent.
Our test car was the 1.6 litre diesel with the six speed automatic gearbox. The engine is easily one of the most refined in its class. Sure there is a diesel clatter on cold start but that settles once things get warmed up. Acceleration is very linear and there is only a slight turbo lag felt at low rpms. Performance is strong once you cross the 2000 rpm mark and there is a punchy mid-range. Push the foot down and you feel the turbo push. The six speed auto box has smooth shifts and is responsive too. The Creta comes across as a great highway mile muncher and the addition of the cruise control has sweetened the deal. It feels right at home in urban city commute as well, with the light steering making it easy to manoeuvre in traffic.
2018 Hyundai Creta Facelift Handling and Safety
The suspension of the 2018 Creta remains unchanged. The ride is on the softer side and is comfortable even at low speeds. Most bumps are handled with ease while only the sharper ones filter into the cabin. High speed stability is rather good but the steering does feel disconnected to an extent.
Hyundai offers dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard across all variants of the Creta. Additionally, the top end variant gets six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist and Vehicle Stability Management Control. Surprisingly, the ISOFIX child seats mounts are only offered on the automatic trims.
