At launch, the new BMW 5-Series will come with two petrol and two diesel engines. The new 2.0 litre four cylinder engine in the 530i develops 253 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. t goes from 0 to 100 kph in 6.2 seconds and has a to speed of 250 kph (limited).The 540i features a 3.0 litre straight six motor developing 340 horses and 450 Nm of torque. It does the 0 to 100 kph sprint in 4.8 seconds (xDrive).The 520d comes with a 2.0 litre four cylinder motor good for 190 horsepower and 400 Nm torque. I comes mated to either a six speed manual or an eight speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. It goes from 0 to 100 in 7.6 seconds (Steptronic) and has a top speed of 237 kph. The 530d is powerd by a 3.0 litre inline six cylinder unit that develops 265 horses and 620 Nm of torque. It goes fom 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kph (limited).
BMW will also add three new engines to the lineup once the new 5-Series goes on sale. These include the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition with eight-speed Steptronic and530e iPerformance plug in hybrid. There will also be an M550i xDrive that will come with a V8 petrol engine developing 462 horsepower and 650 Nm torque. It will do the 0 to 100 kph sprint in just four seconds. The range topping M5 is expected later next year.
BMW is expected toget the new 5-Series to India in the second half of 2017. It will rival the likes of the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and the soon to launch Volvo S90.
