The new 2017 BMW 5-Series will be launched in India next month on June 29. The new car was revealed globally last year and larger and lighter than its predecessor.

2017 BMW 5-Series Engine Specifications

BMW will offer three engine options for India. There will two diesel engines in the model line up:  A  2.0 litre four cylinder unit developing 190 horsepower in the 520d and a 3.0 litre inline six cylinder engine making 265 horsepower in the 530d. The pertrol 530i will feature a 2.0 litre four cylinder motor developing 252 horsepower. This the same engine that does duty in the 3 GT 330i.

The new BMW 5-Series features the current design language of BMW, and at first glance, looks like smaller 7-Series. The car uses the CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform which comprises the use of advanced light weight material.  The new 5-Series is now 100 kg lighter than its predecessor. 70 kg of which is part of the chassis. It is 36 mm longer, 6 mm wider and 2 mm taller than the previous generation model and has a 7 mm longer wheelbase. The car gets LED headlamps as standard, while Adaptive LED units are offered as an option. They feature variable light distribution including adaptive roundabout lights and BMW Selective Beam anti-dazzle high beam with a range of up to 500 metres.

On the interior, the new BMW 5-Series features a 10.25 inch screen for the latest iDrive infotainment system. This can be operated by the iDrive Controller, or by voice command and gestures. It features the latest-generation full-colour BMW Head-Up Display, that has a projection surface that is 70 per cent larger than before and displays traffic signs, telephone listings, radio stations, music tracks, navigation instructions and warnings from the assistance systems.

The longer wheelbase ha resulted in more legroom for the rear occupants. They get comfort seats with massage function that can be controlled by touch sensors. There is four zone climate control along with ionisation and discreet air fragrancing.

Other features include  the new ParkNow technology for digital parking space reservation and payment, the On-Street Parking Information intelligent parking space search function and the optional Parking Assistant, which detects empty spots and parks the vehicle automatically, optional Remote Parking system allows the BMW 5 Series Sedan to be manoeuvred into even the tightest parking spaces remotely using the car key, smart phone integration with Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi hot spot for ten devices. Boot space has has also increased to 530 litres.

The 2017 BMW 5-Series will rival the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6, Volvo S90 and Jaguar XF in India.
