German car manufacturer Volkswagen has announced that it will be unveiling three new models at the upcoming Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi next month.
First of these will be the new sub four metre compact sedan based on the Polo hatchback. The new car that has been specifically designed for India will be made the company’s plant at Chakan, Pune. Official launch should happen later this year. This new compact sedan will step foot in an already crowded sub four metre sedan space and will rival the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and the Ford Aspire.
The Tiguan SUV will also be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. This SUV is built on the the MQB platform shared with the new Octavia. While the Tiguan comes with multiple engine options abroad, the India spec version is expected to come with a 2.0 litre diesel engine. It will also come with 4×4.
The Passat GTE is the third model that will make its way to Auto Expo 2016. The car is powered by a combination of a 1.4 litre TSI engine and an electric motor that give a combined power output of 214 bhp. This gives the car a driving range of over 1,000 kms. In only electric mode, it can cover over 50 kms. Passat GTE will also be a preview to the soon to the new Passat that will be launched in India soon.
Apart from the above three models, Volkswagen will showcase the Polo, Cross Polo, Vento, Jetta and the new Beetle at their pavilion.
