With declining sales in the executive sedan segment, Toyota has found it prudent to discontinue the Corolla Altis in India.
With 2783 units sold in the fiscal of 2018-19, Corolla Altis led the segment, followed by Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra. However, this number is inherently small, and the segment, no longer profitable for the Japanese auto giant.
This imminent decision is due to a shift in customer preference towards SUVs and compact SUVs, which is corroborated by the fact that the segment has seen a plummet in sales by 30%.
With this, it is also very likely that Maruti Suzuki’s cross-badged version of the Corolla Altis will be a stillborn project. The sedan is due to be discontinued when enforcement of the BS VI norms takes place in April 2020.
