Tata Nano electric set for launch. To be called the Jayem Neo
The Tata Nano electric is set to launch November 28, 2017 but will be called the Jayem Neo. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch the Jayem Neo in Hyderabad.
Tata Motors will be supplying complete Nano body shells to Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives. Jayem will source the electric powertrain required for the car from Electra EV, who specializes design, development and supply of electric powertrains, battery packs as well as charging infrastructure.
The Neo will be powered by a 48 volt electric motor developing 23 horsepower. Although this seems quite less for a car that weighs 800 kg, this spec will be available only for the fleet taxi market. Expect a more powerful version for the private buyer. Sources claim an ARAI certified range of 200 km on a full charge, that could drop to 140 km with air-conditioning and four persons on board the car.
The Neo will feature Jayem branding with a ‘powered by Electra EV’ moniker on the sides. There will be no Tata badging anywhere on the car.
Jayem will be supplying the first batch of 400 Neos to taxi aggregator Ola Cabs at launch. The Neo for private buyers is expecte to launch at a later date but this model could get the Tata badge.
