Renault Triber AMT Engine & Performance
The Triber AMT is powered by the 1.0 three cylinder petrol engine from Renault’s Energy series. This is the same engine that does duty in the manual variant. It puts out an identical 72 horsepower and 96 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5 speed AMT gearbox box that sends power to the front wheels. Thanks to the creep mode, the Triber will set off slowly once you put it into D and take your foot off the brake pedal. There is noticeable head nod when the gears shift, but its much more controlled compared to the other AMTs that I have driven before. Also leaving the accelerator pedal just before a gear shift will kind off negate the head nod effect as well. Drive with a light foot and the Triber will keep you happy. It is not an engine that likes to be revved and gets vocal past the 3500 rpm. Relaxed driving is more its thing. Going about in the city and urban traffic is a breeze and the power feels just right. The compact dimensions make it easy to park and manouvre around as well. On the highway, the Triber can cruise at 90 – 100 kph at around 2500 rpm. But do note that this is not an enthusiastic engine. Overtaking moves need to be planned and the gearbox is a bit slow to respond. On the flip side, it does get manual mode, which is apt to use in these scenarios.
Renault Triber AMT Ride & Handling
The Triber has a well tuned suspension that results in is excellent ride quality, something which is a Renault virtue. It takes in all the bumps and undulations on the road with ease, even at low speeds and is also stable when going faster. The 182 mm ground clearance also helps when travelling over non existent roads. The steering feels light in city driving but lacks feel when you want go the spirited way. Braking power is efficient.
