Renault-Nissan’s Alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai, India has reached a significant production milestone by manufacturing it’s one millionth vehicle. The millionth car is a Nissan Micra which rolled off the line at 1215 hrs. on Friday, 8th January 2016.
The plant is the largest Alliance production facility in the world. It started operations in March 2010 following a 45 billion rupee initial investment. The Alliance has since invested a further 16 billion to increase capability with a world-class powertrain manufacturing facility and tooling. The plant has introduced 32 new Renault, Nissan and Datsun models and derivatives to its production line. The plant caters to both domestic and international markets and has developed into India’s second largest car exporter and has shipped more than 600,000 units to 106 countries since 2010. Annual production volume has risen from an initial 75,000 units in 2010, to over 200,000 by the end of March 2015.
The Renault Kid is the latest car to be produced at the Chennai plant in September 2015, which will be followed by Datsun’s third product later this year.
