According to media reports, Jeep is working on an all new small SUV that will slot below the Renegade in the company’s global model range. The new SUV will be the entry level model in the line up and is being aimed at European and other upcoming markets as well.
Speaking to Autocar UK magazine Jeep CEO Mike Manley said, “A smaller car than the Renegade is very interesting to us and we are actively looking at the project now,”. He further added, “We’ve seen the general move in Europe towards smaller SUVs, and there could also be a market in Latin America,”
While the new model could use the Renegade platform, it smaller dimensions could see the the use of an all new lighter platform. The Fiat 500X currently uses the Renegade platform. The new Jeep could share the platform with the next gen Fiat Panda.
Details of the new SUV are likely to be revealed on June, 1 at Jeep’s five year plan announcement 2018-2013 by parent company FCA. FCA head honcho Sergio Marchionne will announce five-year plans for the group for all its brands: Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati and Ram.
