MG Motors’ first offering, the Hector was an instant hit and dubbing it as the Internet car helped the cause. MG Motors has now unveiled the ZS EV, their fully electric compact SUV in India. The ZS EV joins the EV list comprising of the Hyundai Kona Electric, Tata Tigor EV, Mahindra e-Verito and Mahindra e2o in India. The MG ZS EV is pitched against Hyundai Kona directly. Initially, the ZS EV will be available in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi-NCR expanding to other cities later
MG calls it the ZS EV a pure Electric Internet SUV. There is no engine but that doesn’t mean the ZS cant move. The CATL’s produced liquid cool battery generates 143PS and 353 Nm torque and can do 0-100 kmph in 8.5 seconds. No, that’s not slow! On a full charge ZS will cover 340 kms.
MG Motors lives by the tag of Internet Car and the ZS gets the all newly updated iSmart EV 2.0. It can do the usual bits like finding music, search maps, get over the air updates but the most important highlight is that it can also search for charging stations and display CO2 saved.It also comes equipped with an inbuilt PM 2.5 air filter in the cabin. The ZS comes with a sky roof in which it covers 90% of roof area hence the name.
The MG ZS EV can be charged in 5 different ways. The DC Fast Chargers will charge 80% of the battery in 50 minutes, whereas AC fast chargers will take around 6-8 hours to charge. MG Motors will have charging facilities available at their dealerships.
The MG ZS EV is certainly a step in right direction. Yes there are challenges but as they say more the challenges, more the opportunity. The MG ZS EV goes into production by December ‘19 at their plant in Halol, Gujarat. Launch is slated to happen soon and We expect to get our hands on the ZS EV next month.
