Its quite an eerie feeling in the EQE500 especially when there is no noise in the surroundings either.
Mercedes EQE500 Drive & Performance
The Mercedes EQE500 SUV gets a dual motor setup with a 90.56 kWh battery putting out 408 horsepower and a whopping 858 Nm of torque. Mercedes claims a 0 to 100 kph timing of 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 210 kmph. Slot the EQE into D and you move forward in utter silence. Its quite an eerie feeling especially when there is no noise in the surroundings either. There is instant power on tap available. While it was fun doing short bursts of acceleration, the narrow roads of Gulmarg ensured that I had to be careful of oncoming traffic. On the open road, the EQE makes for great cruiser even at triple digit speeds, that too in complete silence. You also get multiple drive modes to choose from: Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual, and Off-Road.
Mercedes EQE500 Ride & Handling
The EQE’s Airmatic air suspension comes with an integrated adaptive damping system which adjusts all four wheels separately. The suspension even lowers itself at high speeds. That said the ride is quite compliant considering it features 20 inch alloys. Small and medium undulations are not felt inside the cabin but large potholes will unsettle you a little. I didn’t really get to test the handling on the narrow roads. Will add to that once I get the car in Mumbai for an extended period of time. The light electric steering feels good to use and also weighs up nicely as you go faster.
The safety kit includes 9 airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist etc. Another feature is acoustic ambient protection where the makes an artificial noise to alert pedestrians on the road.
