Mercedes CLS250 CDI and E400 Cabriolet launched in India
The launch brigade continues for Mercedes Benz India in 2015. Close on the heels of the B-Class facelift and the A200 CDI, we now have two more models from the three pointed star tables to hit Indian roads. Mercedes has launched the CLS250 CDI and the E400 Cabriolet in India.
The CLS is a facelift model which was earlier offered only with a V6 petrol engine but since diesel is more popular in our country, the CLS finally gets an oil burner under the hood. The CLS250 CDI comes with the same 2.2 litre diesel engine that does duty in the E250 CDI and ML250 CDI. This engine is good for 204 horsepower and 500 Nm torque. The CLS comes with MULTIBEAM LED technology where 24 out of 36 LEDs can be controlled individually.Lights are adjusted 100 times per second to give optimum visibility.
The E400 Cabriolet comes with a 3.0 V6 turbo petrol engine putting out 333 horsepower and 480 Nm torque. It does the 0 to 100 kph dash in a claimed 5.3 secs and goes to a top speed of 250 kph. The E400 comes with an electronically operated fabric soft top that can be opened or closed in 20 seconds. It can also be operated when the car is in motion upto 40 kph. Mercedes says the ‘acoustic soft stop’ ensures lowest noise level in the segment.
Both engines are mated to the 7 speed G-TRONIC automatic geabox. There are two driving modes ‘Economy’ and ‘Sport’ and the cars can also be driven in manual mode via paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Both cars come loaded with features like a 14 speaker sound system, air suspension, 8 airbags and Auto Start/Stop function.
Cloud based apps are now available for the COMMAND system in all Mercedes cars sold in India. This includes unrestricted internet surfing, access to Mercedes-Benz Radio, TuneIn Radio, Weather, Audio News, Facebook etc.
Both the CLS250 CDI and the E400 Cabriolet will be brought to India as CBUs. The CLS250 is priced at Rs. 76.5 lakh (ex showroom Delhi) and the E400 Cabriolet is priced at Rs 78.5 lakh (ex showroom Delhi).
