Mercedes-Benz India has announced the launch of the EQ brand in the country. The car maker marked the occasion by revealing the EQC electric SUV in a special EQC 1886 Edition. The Mercedes-Benz EQC will have an Indian market launch in April 2020.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is powered by two electric motors- one at the front and one at the rear. The motors put out power of 300kW (408 hp) and 765 Nm of torque. The two motors also enable all wheel drive. It can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.1 seconds. The EQC has seen 200 prototypes having done over 500 tests and mileage of 4.5 million kms.
In terms of looks, the EQC is very similar to the EQ concept of 2016. Furthermore the interior is as luxurious as expected from a Mercedes-Benz. There is a dual screen display for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system, sleek AC vents, multi function steering wheel and a touch pad to operate the infotainment system, Burmester sound system etc.
The EQC Edition features black panel radiator grille with louvres, high-gloss black badge with ‘EQC Edition 1886’ lettering on the front fender and dual tone 10 spoke 20 inch alloy wheels. On the interior it gets ARTICO man-made leather/ DINAMICA microfibre in indigo blue and black, a special ‘EQC Edition 1886′ lettering embroidered into the seat backrests and lettering can also be found as a badge on the centre console.
Mercedes-Benz India is also working on its ‘Sustainable Luxury’ policy. Today, around 20% of energy requirement at the manufacturing facility comes from solar power. By the end of this quarter, the plan is to increase this to 45% with installation that will cater to almost 45% of the energy requirement of Mercedes-Benz India.
Rivals to the Mercedes-Benz EQC will include the Audi E-Tron and the Jaguar I-Pace.
