When Mercedes entered India 20 years ago, who would have thought that the company from Stuttgart would have such a huge model portfolio in the country today. From the entry level A-Class to the mental AMG’s you have it all in the Indian plate. In the midst of these, the C-Class still remains a very important product for the car maker. The new C-Class is a total break away from its predecessor in terms of design and we loved driving it when we reviewed it last year. We had secretly hoped that Mercedes get in the C250 diesel because the previous gen car was a hoot to drive. Sure enough, our prayers were answered and the C250d was launched earlier this year. It gets more power and torque plus and bit more of equipment thrown in. We decided to take it for a spin. This review will focus only on the Mercedes-Benz C250d. It is only once you see the badging on the boot, that you know that it’s a different car. The C-Class is a very beautiful automobile as we mentioned in our review of the C220. It actually looks like a smaller version of the S-Class, and no wonder it lovingly called the ‘Baby S’. The C250d also comes with the LED Intelligent Lights. The 17 inch alloy wheels also look great and go well with the car. However, it would have been nice if Mercedes would have given the C250d some extra styling elements to distinguish it from its sibling. The interior of the C250d is identical to the C220, which means it’s as plush and luxurious as you can expect. The dual tone finish gives the cabin a very airy feel. The finish of the window switches, seat controls and locking buttons is top notch. We love the circular AC vents, wood trims, the wide centre console and the analogue clock in the centre. What we don’t love is the free standing tab style screen for the COMMAND infotainment system. It feels as if the screen has been stuck on to the dashboard. Not cool. The three spoke steering feels nice to hold and comes with paddle shifters. The car comes loaded with host of standard features like dual zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, electric adjust for front seats etc. Additionally the C250d gets GARMIN Map Pilot, Active Park Assist with PARKTRONIC and reverse camera with 180 degree view. You also get ambient lighting for the cabin with a choice of three colours: Solar(amber), Polar(ice blue) and Neutral(white). The car has extremely comfortable front seats. They offer great support and come with an extendable seat base too. There is lots of legroom at the rear but tall occupants could be left wanting for more headroom. The rear seats are comfortable but lack a bit in under thigh support. This is due to the seat base being short. Continued…
