After the global partnership of Toyota and Suzuki coming together, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno was the first model supplied to Toyota as part of this alliance. The Toyota Glanza as it is known, is essentially a rebadged version of the Baleno hatchback. Now Maruti Suzuki has announced that the second model that it will supply to Toyota will be the Vitara Brezza compact SUV.
According to a media report the Vitara Brezza will be renamed as the Urban Cruiser by Toyota and is expected to launch by August 2020. Unlike the Glanza, the Urban Cruiser is expected to come with certain changes to distinguish itself from the Vitara Brezza.
The Urban Cruise could get a new set of bumpers and different front grille. There will be no changes to the overall sheet metal of the compact SUV and the alloy wheels are also expected to be identical to the Maruti Suzuki. On the interior, the Urban Cruiser could get a lighter theme and graphics.
The Urban Cruiser is likely to be powered by the same BS VI compliant 1.5 litre petrol engine putting out 105 horsepower, that does duty in the Vitara Brezza. Transmission options include a 5 speed manual of a 4 speed automatic gearbox.
Only the automatic version of the Vitara Brezza gets the Maruti Suzuki SHVS mild hybrid system so it remains to be seen if Toyota will offer a manual variant with this feature.
Like the Glanza, a longer 3 year/ 1,00,000 km standard warranty is also expected to be offered with the Urban Cruiser.
