The upcoming Mahindra MPV that has so far been called the U321 has finally got the name. The new model will be called Marazzo which means shark in Basque, a sub-language of Spanish.
The Marazzo has been designed together by the Mahindra Design Studio and Pininfarina, the famed design house. It is the first passenger car from Mahindra that has been developed jointly by the Mahindra North America Technical Centre (MNATC) and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. Many of the styling elements are inspired by the shark which include the tail lamps and the front grille.
The Marazzo will be available in 7 and 8 seater configurations. It is expected to come loaded with features and in an industry first, it will feature a Surround cooling system for the air conditioning. Other features could include a touch screen infotainment system, leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, projector headlamps and daytime running lamps.
Mahindra has said that the Marazzo will come with an all new engine. The car maker however did not reveal any details on the specifications of the motor but we expect it to be an all new 1.5 litre engine mated to a six speed manual. An automatic variant could also be on the cards.
Mahindra will produce the Marazzo at the car maker’s facility in Maharashtra. The official launch is expected to happen in the coming months during the festive season. Mahindra also said that the Marazzo will not replace any model in their current lineup.
