Kia Motors recently published a list of features that are deployed on the Seltos, the midsize SUV that kicks off their India stint. Also worthy of note is that pre-bookings for the car have commenced ahead of the August launch.
The Seltos will be available in two formats, namely, a family-friendly Tech line, and a more performance-oriented GT line. Powering the Seltos line up is a band of three Smartstream engines comprising of a 1.5L petrol, 1.5L diesel and a 1.4L turbo petrol. They will function in conjunction with four transmission options which include a 7-speed DCT, IVT, 6-speed AT and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Keeping in mind the testing road conditions of India, the Seltos is armed with an all-wheel disc brake setup and various driving modes such as Sports, Normal and Eco to choose from. Apart from normal driving modes, there are traction modes such as Sand, Snow/Wet and mud to choose from.
The Seltos has already been grabbing eyeballs for its aggressive styling which includes many first in segment features such as a sweeping light bar sitting atop the all-LED headlamp cluster with radically designed blinkers, ice-cube fog lamps, and heartbeat tail lamps. The stance of the car is accentuated by means of cladding around the lower hem of the body panels and a roof-mounted spoiler that complements the 17-inch alloy wheels rather nicely. Customers can choose from a swatch of 8 monotones and 5 dual colour schemes for the paint.
The territory within the doors is an extensively feature-loaded affair, which otherwise appears very modest and unassuming, thanks to the very cleanly designed cockpit-style dashboard. The hardware includes ventilated front seats with electronic movement for the driver’s side, two-way adjustment and 60:40 splitting for the rear seat, sunshade curtains and a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel among other things.
The instrument cluster gets a 7-inch MID in addition to an 8-inch heads up display unit to keep essential updates in the driver’s field of view. The infotainment system is a 10.25-inch console that doubles up as the command centre for Kia’s proprietary UVO artificial intelligence assistant. The UVO system imparts as many as 37 features to the car such as live car tracking, collision warning and SOS/roadside assistance, stolen vehicle notification and immobilisation, vehicle health report, tyre pressure monitoring, remote engine start/stop, remote air purification and trip information amongst many others. Also featuring on the Seltos is a 14-colour mood lighting system that works in tandem with a 400W 8-channel audio system powered by Bose to deliver superior sound
In terms of safety, the Seltos is equipped with many features including 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors with a parking camera, vehicle stability management system, electronic stability control, hill driving assistance and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The UVO system, capable of alerting emergency services is also on standby.
The Kia Seltos is poised for its launch on 22 August, during which prices shall also be made known. As of now, customers can pre-book it for a token amount of Rs. 25,000, starting 16 July.
