After a long wait the iconic Jeep brand has finally launched in India. The Jeep lineup for India includes the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. All Jeep models will be sold as fully imported CBUs. The first locally made Jeep product will roll off from the Ranjangaon plant in 2017.
Prices for the Jeep models are as follows: (ex showroom Delhi)
- Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD: Rs 71.59 lakh
- Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit: Rs 1.03 crore
- Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited: Rs 93.64 lakh
- Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: Rs 1.12 crore
The Grand Cherokee Limited and Summit will be powered by a 3.0 litre V6 EcoDiesel engine developing 240 horsepower. The SRT features a 6.4 litre HEMI V8 petrol engine that puts out 475 horsepower. Both engines are mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox. The SRT additionally gets the Brembo brakes and Adaptive Damping suspension. The diesel variant come with stock steel suspension.
The Limited comes with black claddings on the exteriors, 8 way electric adjust for front seats with memory function, heating function for front and middle row seats, exterior mirrors with memory and heating function, manual steering adjust, 5.0 inch touch screen display with UConnect infotainment system with voice command,9 speakers with subwoofer, bi xenon HID headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, powered tail gate, dual zone climate control, heated steering, parking sensors with rear view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, 18 inch aluminium wheels and Selec-Terrain off road system.
The Summit variant adds ventilated front seats, claddings in body colour, 8.4 inch touch screen display, 506W amplifier, under seat lighting, optional 19 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, 20 inch aluminium wheels, satelitte navigation, panoramic sunroof and Electronic Rear Limited Slip Differential.
The SRT features the 19 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system as standard, 20 inch polished 5 spoke wheels, run flat tyres, SRT brushed aluminium pedals, Adaptive Bi Xenon headlamps, Sport Mode and Quadra Trac on demand four wheel drive system. The SRT loses out on the panoramic sunroof and Hill Descent Control.The Wrangler sold in India will be the five door version that will come with a removable hardtop and doors. It features 17 inch alloy wheels. On the interior you get washable interiors. Other features include lockable storage space, leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, touch screen infotainment system, navigation and Alpine sound system.
The Wrangler is powered by a 2.8 litre 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine that develops 197 bhp. The engine is mated to a 5 speed automatic gearbox and comes with Command-Trac Shift-On-The-Fly 4WD system. Hill Start Assist (HAS) and Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) are also included. Safety features of the Wrangler include multi stage front airbags, Electronic Stability Control and ABS with all round discs.
At launch Jeep has two operational dealerships one in Delhi and Ahmedabad each. The Chennai dealership will open next folowed by the Mumbai showroom in October. Jeep plans to have ten dealershhips in India by the end of 2016. Jeep has also inagurated a parts distribution centre in Chakan, Pune.
Jeep has also announced that it will be launching petrol variants of its models in November this year.
