The ride quality is surprisingly good too. Broken roads don’t unsettle the SUV, despite the fact that this Summit variant rides on large 20 inch wheels. The ride is pretty flat and compliant. High speed stability is extremely good with the fat 265 profile rubber offering phenomenal grip. Body roll is controlled around the corners as well. The brakes have good bite and feel confident. There are a host of safety features on board. These include driver and co-driver airbags, side airbags for the front seats, curtain airbags, knee airbag for the driver, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, 4-Wheels Traction Control, Electronic Stabilty Control etc.Jeep has been an iconic brand all over the world and what better time for it to come to India than in it’s 75th Anniversary year. The Jeep Grand Cherokee as a package is very tempting. It has a nice diesel engine with more than enough power, comes with every feature that you can think of, drives well and will keep those who want to be chauffeured around happy as too. That said, the interiors could have been more special. It just lacks that plushness that you expect from a car in this category. The biggest downer however is the price. The diesel Summit version you see in these pictures comes at Rs. 1.03 crore ex showroom Delhi. That makes it very expensive and would be the biggest deterrent for prospective buyers. But if you want something that has pedigree and looks like nothing else on the road, and if your heart rules over your head to the extent that the price is not a deal breaker, head right down to a Jeep Destination Store near you. And far as my dream of getting a Grand Cherokee for my Dad is concerned, that will have to remain a dream, at least for now.
