Jaguar has started working on an all electric compact SUV according to reports. The new SUV will most likely share its dimensions with the E-Pace SUV, which is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport platform. It is expected to be unveiled in 2019 and will rival the Tesla Model X. The E-Pace on the other hand will have an international launch in 2017.
The electric SUV will most likely share its aluminium architecture with the XE and F-Pace because this platform was designed with an all electric powertrain in mind along with other hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.
According to Autocar UK, the Jaguar electric SUV will feature four inboard electric motors mounted on each corner. Driveshafts will be retained as well. There is also a possibility of Jaguar making a technology leap with in wheel motors.
With this electric SUV, Jaguar could offer a total of three SUVs in the international market before the decade ends. These include the F-Pace, E-Pace and the electric SUV. A fourth model, the J-Pace could join the lineup in 2020 as well.
