After a merry response to the entry-level 750cc Harley Davidson Street, the American motorcycle company is contemplating an even smaller parallel twin 338cc bike, specifically for the Asian market.
Harley has collaborated with Chinese bike maker Qianjiang, a subsidiary of the Geely group that owns Volvo and manufactures Benelli motorcycles. In fact, the new engine shall be an add on to the existing design of Benelli’s TNT 300 parallel twin.
While building a retro styled cruiser would be the way to go given Harley’s expertise in the segment, the supposed rendering shows a radical departure from the same. The agile design incorporates scrambler like elements such as a high tail at the rear end, a slightly high seating exhaust pipe with tips facing upwards, while the front has cruiser like elements such as the sizeable hollow space between the engine bay and the front telescopic arms, something Harley is eminent for.
While the original association was planned with an Indian manufacturer, it did not work out, due to which the aforesaid collaboration resulted. The bike is assured of having a rugged build quality that Harley is known for, and shall retail in the Rs.3 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh bracket. While it shall hit the Chinese markets by 2020, it is not expected in India before 2021.
