Ferrari has unveiled the F12tdf (Tour De France). It was earlier expected to get the Speciale or the GTO monicker. Only 799 units of the car will be made.
The F12tdf is powered by the same V12 engine that does duty in the F12 Berlinetta but is now tuned to produce 770 bhp at 8,500 rpm and torque of 705 Nm at 6,750 rpm. Power is channeled to the rear wheels and the engine is mated to a modified version of the F1 double clutch gearbox with 6 % shorter ratios. Upshifts are now 30 % faster and downshifts are 40% faster. The 0 to 100 kph sprint is done in 2.9 seconds with the car going to a top speed of 340 kph. There is extensive use of carbon fibre in the contruction of this limited edition Prancing Horse which makes it 110 kg lighter than the regular F12 Berlinetta. There is a lot of weight saving on the interior too. Carbon fibre has been used for the instrument cluster and the satellite pods. The door panels have been pared back to a single carbon-fibre shell, while the glove compartment has been replaced by simple knee padding. Alcantara rather the traditional leather was chosen for the cabin trim, technical fabric for the seats and patterned aluminium instead of mats for the floor, once again with the aim of saving every last ounce of weight.
