Ferrari’s hardcore version of the 488 GTB has been spotted testing on public roads for the very first time. To be christened the 488 GTO, it will a direct rival to Porsche’s upcoming 911 GT2 and replaces the 458 Speciale in the Ferrari model line up.

The 488 GTB’s 3.9 litre twin turbo V8 will be reworked to produce approx 700 horsepower thanks to increased pressure and internal modifications. Torque is expected to go up too.The 488 GTO will be based o the 488 platform with a more performance oriented chassis and will have a light weight structure. Non essential parts from the interior and sound deadening from its engine bay are expected to be removed. The car will be fitted with light weight parts like thinner glass for the windshield and side windows along with ceramic brakes and forged alloy wheels.

All this will translate to kerb weight below 1400 kg helping the 488 GTO to go from 0 to 100 kph in little over 2.9 seconds. The 488 GTO will also get new software for its Side Slip Angle Control.

The Ferrari 488 GTO is expected to go on sale sometime in 2018.
