BMW 320d Gran Turismo Engine and Performance
The updated 3 GT diesel gets the B47 series engine that does duty in the sedan. This engine had first made its debut in the X3 facelift. The 2.0 litre twin turbo four cylinder motor delivers 190 horsepower and maximum torque of 400 Nm. The oil burner does tend to get noisy at higher rpms but refinement levels are way better than before. Add to that, the engine has fantastic drivability and has a punchy mid-range as well. The 8-speed ZF gearbox has quick shifts and can toggle between hard and composed driving styles all day long. There are four drive modes to choose from – Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport + . It hits the ton in 7.7 seconds with a top speed of 230 kph.We just love the way BMWs handle, don’t we? The 2016 3 GT comes with a reworked suspension, and even though it doesn’t feel as agile as the sedan, the GT doesn’t take away any driving pleasure and handles like a Bimmer should. Comfort mode offers a good blend of efficiency and performance. Perfect for your daily drive and the steering feels light too. Ride quality is very compliant you should be comfortable over bad roads and potholes. High speed stability is impressive as well. But when you are at the wheel of a BMW, it’s the Sport and Sport + modes that should interest you. Sport stiffens up the steering and improves throttle response. The gearbox shifts at the redline as well. Sport+ will turn off ESP and activate Dynamic Traction Control. This IS the most fun mode. You will have blast round twisties and the GT will feel at home even if you take to a track. And oh, did we mention that the car will swing its tail out whenever you want it to?
