The all new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been launched in India priced at Rs. 2.17 crore for the S400d 4Matic and Rs. 2.19 crore for the S450 4Matic petrol ex showroom. The new S-Class will be available in a single AMG line trim as a CBU. CKD variants are expected to follow later this year.
Dimensions wise the new S-Class is Longer (+34 mm), wider (+22 mm), taller (+13 mm) with a longer wheelbase (+51 mm) than the outgoing model. The new S-Class gets an all new exterior design and comes with Digital LED headlamps, a new large chrome front grille, front bumpers with large air intakes, flush door handles, AMG alloy wheels and split rear LED tail lamps. Five colour options will be available: Designo Diamond White, Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Rubellite Red and Emerald Green.
On the interior, the new S-Class gets a 12.8 inch portrait oriented OLED touchscreen on the centre console. It comes with the second gen MBUX infotainment system and the voice assistant can be accessed by all the four seats. The rear seats also gets their individual MBUX screens and also a tablet in the rear console. The also come with the chauffeur package. The rear executive seats can be reclined to an angle of 43.5 degrees. In a first, the rear passengers also get front mounted rear airbags. Other features include new design 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, finger print and voice recognition for Mercedes Me Connect, 64 colour Active Ambient lighting with 250 LEDs 10 massage programs on the front and rear seats seats and a new 4D Burmester Surround Sound system with 30 speakers and 8 resonators.
Coming to the engines, The S400d comes with the in-line 6-cylinder, diesel engine that develops 330hp and 700Nm of torque. The S450 petrol engine is gets an in-line 6-cylinder, turbocharged engine, that puts out 367hp and 500Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a 9 speed automatic gearbox and feature the 4 Matic all wheel drive system. The new S-Class also comes with rear axle steering with movement upto 4.5 degrees This makes the luxo barge easily manoeuvrable in tight situations.
Service packages for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class start at Rs. 82,900 for a period of 2 years and unlimited kms. Packages are available for upto 10 years.
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class rivals the BMW 7-Series and Audi A8L in the Indian market.
