BMW has launched the new X1 in India at a starting price of Rs, 29.9 lakh and is available in three trim levels: Expedition, xLine and M Sport.

The new X1 now gets a more SUV type stance while its predecessor appeared more on the station wagon side. It gets a new front bumper with a prominent grille. It also gets plastic body cladding and new rear stylish tail lamps. There is also a roof mounted spoiler. All LED headlights can be ordered as an option.IMG_0549On the interior, the new X1 gets a driver focussed dashboard.  Standard equipment includes air conditioning, an audio system with USB and AUX-in sockets, and the iDrive operating system, whose 6.5-inch display is integrated into the instrument panel in free standing monitor form. Rear knee room has been increased by 37 mm and boot space now stands at 505 litres, 85 litres more than the older car. The rear seats fold down in a 40:20:40 split which increases boot capacity to 1,550 litres.IMG_0562 IMG_0573

The new X1 also gets  the Driving Assistant Plus line-up of the Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go function, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assistant, Collision Warning, Heads Up Display and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function.

It is powered by a 2.0 litre twin turbo diesel engine that develops 189 bhp and 400 Nm torque. It is mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox. The new X1 goes from 0 to 100 in 7.8 seconds, the M Sport does it in 7.6 seconds.

The new X1 will be produced at BMW’s Chennai plant.
