Volkswagen will reveal two new cars for India at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, the Polo GTI and a new compact sedan.
The Polo GTI is is powered by a 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops a whopping 190 bhp of power and maximum torque of 320 Nm if mated to a six speed manual or 250 Nm if mated to a seven speed DSG automatic gearbox. The car goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 236 kmph. India will most likely get the automatic version of the car.
On the exterior, the Volkswagen Polo GTI gets sporty bumpers, 17 inch alloy wheels, twin exhaust pipes and a honeycomb grille with GTI badging.The compact sedan is specifically developed and designed for India, and will be based on the Polo with an added boot. Engine line up could consist of the 1.2 MPI and TSI motors and the 1.5 litre diesel unit. The TSI variant could come with the 7 speed DSG gearbox. The name ‘ Bora’ could return to the VW model line up. Rs. 720 core has been invested in the Chakan plant for new equipment and to ramp up production .
Both cars are expected to go on sale mid 2016. While the Polo GTI will rival the Fiat Punto Abarth, the compact sedan will go up against Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent and the recently launched Ford Figo Aspire.
