Mercedes Benz has launched the S 500 Coupe and the AMG S 63 Coupe in India at a price of Rs. 2 crore and 2.6 crore respectively. These prices are ex showroom Delhi.
The S Coupe is based on the S-Class sedan but comes with two doors and sloping coupe style end. It is 5027 mm long, 1899 mm wide and has a height of 1411. It has a wheelbase of 2945 mm. The optional LED headlamps feature a total of 94 Swarovski crystals. 34 crystals make up the DRLs and 60 round shaped crystals form the turn indicator lamps.
On the interior, the S 500 Coupe gets a large two part TFT display in a hovering position. Under the display, the elevated centre console extends to the rear. It gets two individual rear seats . The seats are finished in nappa leather in diamond back stitching pattern. The front seat belts are integrated into the rear side panels and come with seat belt extenders. The S 500 Coupe gets MAGIC SKY CONTROL as an option where it is possible to switch the transparency of the roof from light to dark at the push of a button. Safety features include PRE-SAFE, Brake Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus. Heads Up Display is also available on the S 500 Coupe. Power comes from a 4.7 litre V8 petrol engine that develops 455 horsepower with maximum torque of 700 Nm.
The AMG S 63 looks similar to the standard Coupe but with AMG add ons like a body kit, twin blade radiator grille, 19 inch AMG alloys and a ‘V8 BITURBO” badging on the front fenders. It also gets carbon fibre bits.
MAGIC BODY CONTROL now comes to India as standard in the AMG S 63. It includes the new curve tilting function in addition to the Active Body Control (ABC) and ROAD SURFACE SCAN functions. With Active Body Control the suspension struts are equipped with hydraulic cylinders, in order to adjust the force in each strut individually. Depending upon the curve of the road driven, the curve tilting function adapts the preload for individual spring. This allows the vehicle to incline automatically and continuously in fractions of a second on bends – depending on the road angle and vehicle speed. The innovative suspension system detects curves using a stereo camera behind the windscreen, registering the curvature of the road up to 15 meters ahead, and an additional lateral acceleration sensor.
Power comes from a 5.5 litre twin turbo V8 engine that develops 577 horsepower with 900 Nm of maximum torque. It does the 0 to 100 kph sprint in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kph (electronically limited). The engine is mated to a 7 speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT gearbox. It also comes with three driving modes: C’ (Controlled Efficiency), ‘S’ (Sport) and ‘M’ (Manual).
