It was on my birthday in 2021 that I first drove the Ferrari Roma and that made the day even more special for a Tifosi and Ferrari fanatic like me. I still remember driving around the streets of Mumbai on an early Saturday morning and coming back home with a big smile on my face. Fast forward to 2024 and to Dubai where I got my hands on the new Ferrari Roma Spider that was launched last year. I got to spend a couple of days with it driving around on Dubai roads and apart from refreshing memories, it made for making some new ones as well.
Ferrari Roma Spider Exterior & Design
The Ferrari Roma is the entry level model to the Prancing Horse club. I never thought a Spider version of this car would come but the boys at Maranello proved me otherwise. This here is these pictures is the Ferrari Roma Spider and isnt it drop dead gorgeous? Ferrari hasn’t made a soft top front engined model since the famous 365 GTS4 Daytona that came way back in 1969. So this one is rather special to say the least. After a long hiatus, we get a Ferrari with a fabric soft top, a break away from the hardtop convertibles of the recent past. So what’s new on the Spider? For starters, the fabric roof gets five layers along with a special weave in it for better aesthetics. There are new reinforced structural elements incorporated along with an integrated wind deflector. The additional stiffening all around has added 84 kg to the Roma’s weight over the coupe. The roof takes 13.5 seconds to open or close and can be done at speeds up to 60 kph. I had fallen in love with the Roma’s looks when I first saw it online and more so after seeing it in the flesh. But I have to say that the Spider looks even more beautiful than its coupe sibling. Keeping the design elements intact after adding a soft top isn’t a mean feat and full marks to Ferrari for pulling this off. This is one of those cars I can just sit and stare at for hours together.
