The previous generation Audi A6 soldiered on in India for a very long time. On the other hand, BMW and Mercedes-Benz already got in new versions of the 5-Series and E-Class respectively. But now finally, the all new fifth generation of the A6 sedan is here, and what’s more, the A6 was first of the slew of models that Audi has lined up for our shores. So has the new Audi A6 been worth the long wait? I spent a weekend with it to find out.
Audi A6 45 TFSI Exterior
I have always loved the A6 for its subtle design and the new one is no different. The new model is more of an evolution of the previous gen car and that’s a nice thing. Overall the new A6 has grown in size. Compared to its predecessor, it is now 7 mm longer, 12 mm wider, 2 mm taller and has a 12 mm longer wheelbase. You really cannot mistake the A6 for anything else. However it does look sharper than before. The single frame ‘Bulgarian Beard’ front grille is wider than before and gets chrome throughout. There are new Matrix LED headlamps with an angular design and feature new daytime running lamps. The front bumper gets chrome elements as well. The wheel arches are large and the A6 come with 18 inch alloys with a very futuristic design to say the least. They look fantastic. They come mated to 225/55 R18 tyres and fill the wheel arches nicely. The shoulder crease doesn’t run in a single stretch across the side, but is infact split into two above the front and rear wheel arches. The ORVMs are mounted onto the doors. At the rear, there are sleek looking tail lamps with vertical LED elements, connected by a thin chrome strip. The lower half of the rear bumper also gets chrome elements that resemble dual exhausts but actually they are not. To sum up, the new Audi A6 does have a certain street presence without being too much in your face and is very pleasing to look at.
