A seven seater rendition of the Tata Harrier is on its way to the Indian markets. The Buzzard, as it is called, was first showcased in the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
Based on the D8 architecture that also underpins the Harrier and the Range Rover Discovery sport, the new car will not only serve to expand the Harrier portfolio but also replace the Tata Hexa. It will be powered by a BS-6 compliant version of the the Harrier’s Kyrotec 2.0L engine and shall push performance in excess of 170hp / 350Nm.
While the Hexa will see the end of life, its duty bound 2.2L engine will migrate to Tata’s commercial vehicle line up, where the impact of emission norms has not been so strong. In standardizing the underpinnings of its utility vehicles at powertrain levels, Tata aims to achieve a development cost cut, the benefit of which will also be extended to the customers.
While not much is known about the new car, it will have a 62mm overhang in excess of the 5 seater Harrier, thereby providing for a third row of seating. It is expected to go on sale sometime in the next year.
