Audi recently revealed the SQ8, a high-performance version of its Q8 coupe style SUV. The SQ8 sits at the top of Audi’s range and is their most potent SUV on sale.
The SQ8 is powered by a 4L bi-turbo V8 with a 48 volts mild hybrid architecture and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain issues 435 hp and 900 Nm of torque, propelling the car to a hundred from standstill in 4.8 seconds, all the way up to an electronically limited speed of 250 kmh. The active air suspension which is offered as standard across the range is capable of adjusting the right height by up to 90mm and can be further enhanced by a sports package which includes a sport differential capable of torque vectoring. The car sits on 21″ wheel as standard, though customers may choose from a 22″ option also. Carbon ceramic braking is standard across the range.
The car is built on Volkswagen’s MLB Evo platform and features aggressive styling. In the front, the car gets a 6-slat grille encased in a brushed silver frame that is flanked by all LED headlamps. The front bumper looks very prominent with wide openings at the side and a visible skid plate that curves towards the grille from the bottom. The rear has a very geometric profile and features two clusters of twin exhaust tips on either side.
The interior is a feature loaded affair with ‘S’ badging at key areas to highlight the sporty pedigree of the SQ8. The instrument cluster is Audi’s digital Virtual cockpit. The infotainment comprises of a dual-touchscreen setup. The car comprises of materials such as leather and Alcantara at various points of contact and stainless steel pedals with aluminium door sills.
The turbo-diesel motor with mild hybrid architecture will only be sold in the UK and Europe while other markets will get a petrol variant of the SQ8. While there has been no news of an India launch, the car was spotted testing on Indian soil so as to conform to global testing standards.
