Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new A-Class sedan that will launch globally at the end of 2018. At present only China gets the long wheelbase version of the A-Class sedan.
The A-class sedan is built on Mercedes-Benz’s MFA II platform. The sedan measures 4,549 mm in length, 1,796 mm width and 1,446 mm in height. It is 130 mm longer, has the same width and is 6 mm taller than the hatchback, sharing an identical wheelbase of 2,729 mm. It features a longer roof and rear doors than the hatch and has a compact boot. With a a Cd of 0.22, the A-Class sedan has the lowest aerodynamic drag of all production vehicles worldwide. The A-Class sedan will have options of 16 to 19 inch alloy wheels. A diamond radiator grille with chrome pins is optional.

The interior features a dashboard that is identical to the hatchback sibling. The A-Class sedan also features the new MBUX infotainment system with touch screen and speech recognition. 64 colour ambient lighting is being offered as an option. Mercedes claims class leading rear headroom along with substantial elbow, shoulder and head room up front. The A-Class comes with 420 litres of boot space,
At launch, the A-Class sedan will come with two engine options. There will be a 1.3 litre four cylinder petrol engine developing 163hp and 250Nm (A200) and a 1.5 litre four cylinder diesel putting out 116hp and 260Nm (A180d). Both will come with a six speed manual gearbox as standard that will send power to the front wheels. A seven speed dual clutch automatic will be available as an option.
The A-Class sedan will be initially built at Mercedes’ Rastatt plant in Germany and in Aguascalientes, Mexico.The car will be globally unveiled at the upcoming Paris Motor Show 2018 in October. An Edition 1 version will be available at launch that will come with copper-coloured highlights in the exterior and interior.
Expect the A-Class sedan to reach Indian shores sometime next year.
