Mercedes-Benz India has announced that Martin Schwenk will take up the role of Managing Director and CEO for the car maker effective from November 1, 2018. He will replace Roland Folger who, after a stint of three years will move on to a new role as Managing Director, Sales & Marketing, MBC Hub SEA1 (Thailand and Vietnam) and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Thailand. Martin Schwenk is currently CFO of Mercedes-Benz China.
In the three years of Mr. Folger’s tenure, Mercedes-Benz India achieved significant milestone such as being the first car maker to launch a car with a BS VI emission compliant engine in India. The launch of the India specific LWB E-Class was also seen during Mr. Folger’s reign. The car maker also achieved its highest half yearly sales in history this month. He was also responsible for significant network expansion and creation of the Vehicle Preparation Centre in 2017.
Martin Schwenk has an Engineering degree from the University of Stuttgart and started his career at Daimler in 1992, through the Mercedes-Benz Trainee Program. Afterwards, he has taken various important positions in Finance and Controlling in several locations, including Germany, South Africa, Austria and United States. In September 2015, Martin joined the Mercedes-Benz Sales Organization in China as the Chief Financial Officer.
