When you see the Toyota badge, the only thing that comes to your mind is bullet proof reliability and fuss free ownership. The way the Indian buyer has been lapping up Innovas and Fortuners is a statement in itself to show what a loyal following the car maker enjoys in our country. And now, Toyota wants to grab a pie of the fiercely competitive C-segment and the weapon of choice is the Yaris. However, it wont be easy taking on the well set options from Maruti, Hyundai and Honda so Toyota has its work out. Will the Yaris be able to repeat the success story of its bigger siblings? Let’s see.
Toyota Yaris Exterior
The Yaris has been around since 1999 and we in India get the third generation car that received an update last year. While it is also available as a hatchback in other markets, we get the sedan version. The Yaris gets very conservative styling. The design isn’t revolutionary like the Innova Crysta or the new Fortuner. It is no nonsense and safe to say the least. Up front there are large sweptback headlamps that feature projector units. The front bumper features black horizontal slats that give a very Lexus ish look and round fog lamps are mounted in black housings. The central air dam is also visible between the slats. LED daytime running lamps are housed in the front grille on either side of the Toyota logo. The bonnet features creases in a V design that meet at the centre of the front grille. The side is rather plain but features prominent cuts. The 15 inch alloy wheels look small for the car and the design could also have been better. The rear features wrap around tail lamps. The large rear bumper gives the rear a very bulky stance and features fog lamps at the bottom on either side. It is interesting to not that there are no chrome elements anywhere on the exterior, though they are available as accessories.
