The Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX remains one of my all-time favourite cars in the Indian car space. Fiat is one manufacturer that has always put a smile on the faces of Indian automobile enthusiasts by bringing driver oriented cars to our market. True to the reputation, the company launched their Abarth performance brand in India with the 595 Competizione and followed that up with the Abarth Punto and Avventura later. To experience what ‘Abarthness’ is all about, we called for the 595 Competizione and put it through its paces over a weekend. Here’s what we thought. Read on. The Abarth 595 Competizione may be a tiny little car but trust the Italians to make it look like a million bucks. The Fiat 500 was already a beautiful looking car and the 595 goes a few steps further. The 595 features sportier front and rear bumpers along with side skirts, a wider airdam, rear diffuser and dual exhausts. There are sexy 17 inch alloy wheels mated to Pirelli P Zero 205/40 R 17 low profile tyres. The Abarth Scorpion and 595 badges make their presence felt at all the right places. It is interesting to note that there isn’t a single Fiat badge on the car. That this car turns a lot of heads on the road would be an understatement. The 595 Competizione attracts as much attention as more exotic Italian metal if not more. What car is it? How much? These are some of the questions that were fired our way at traffic lights and even while driving. The 595 comes in four exterior paint options. Our pick of the lot would be the Scorpione Black or the Cordolo Red. The Campovolo Grey on our test car felt a little underwhelming. Contd…
