2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Engine & Performance
Mercedes offers the E-Class with three engine options: E220d with a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder diesel, E450 with a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder petrol and the E200 petrol which is the test car that you see in these pictures. This 2.0 litre 4 cylinder motor puts out 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. It also gets a 48 V mild hybrid system. This gives you an additional 23 horses and 205 Nm when accelerating. The engine starts up quietly and once you get going the acceleration is very linear without a sense of urgency. The additional boost works well when you are driving in urban city scenarios and the motor feels responsive. Despite the length it feels easy to drive and shrinks around you well. Mercedes claims a 0 to 100 kph timing of 7.5 seconds. On the open road progress is smooth and and it’s a very comfortable experience for both, the driver and especially the rear passengers. The 9 speed torque convertor automatic gearbox is a perfect match for the motor. It is very smooth and you will hardly notice the shifts when driving in a relaxed manner. There’s even paddle shifters for manual control. Overall the E-Class makes for a great highway car.
The E-Class features 4 drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual. These modes alter the throttle and steering response. Eco mode focuses on efficiency with pedal response being dull. Comfort is default with a balance between the Eco and Sport modes. Sport makes the engine more responsive and the transmission even hold gears for longer. The mode is not very aggressive but will do the job incase of say quick overtakes or the likes. Individual let you customize drive mode settings to your taste.
