2021 Maruti Swift Engine & Performance
The biggest change in the 2021 Maruti Swift is under the hood. It now gets the DualJet 1.2 litre four cylinder petrol engine that also does duty in the Dzire and the Baleno. This engine is good for 90 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. The engine gets two injectors in each cylinder, that will aid in better fuel efficiency, and Maruti claims that the FE is up by 2 kpl to 23.2 kpl. The Swift now also gets the Auto Start/Stop feature. What impressed me right away is the smoothness of the engine. It is super smooth and you don’t feel it running when at idle either. The engine isn’t outright punchy but performance is stronger than before. Power builds up in a very linear manner and there is a nice pull after 1300 rpm. Low end power is great too and that makes driving in urban city traffic easy. Gearbox options include a 5 speed manual or an AMT automatic. The clutch in the manual is light which makes the driving experience better and even the shifts are slick and smooth. It will be interesting to see how the AMT performs with this motor.
2021 Maruti Swift Ride & Handling
The Swift has always been an agile handler and this version is no different. The steering is very light and that makes it easy to drive in tight city traffic. I would have liked the steering to communicate better at higher speeds though, as the Swift is a fun car to drive. The suspension set up remains unchanged on the new model and ride at low speeds does feel on the stiffer side, only to get better as you go faster.
