2021 Audi A4 Engine & Performance
With the BS 6 norms coming in, Audi has ditched diesels, at least for now with only a petrol model portfolio being offered. The A4 that came before this one had a 1.4 litre petrol engine, but this 2021 model gets a new 2.0 L four cylinder TFSI motor putting out 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Having driven this engine just recently in the Q2, I can say I am a fan. The smoothness and refinement is next level. Response to throttle input is instant and there is no lag that is noticeable. Power delivery is in a very linear fashion but you do feel the surge as you go up the rev band. It also sounds nice and sporty when you put the pedal to the metal. The 7 speed DSG gearbox sends power to the front wheels, so there is no quattro in the A4. Shifts from the transmission are smooth as expected, but it is slight let down when executing a downshift or a kickdown. There is a bit of lag before the job gets done. That said, the steering mounted paddle shifters allow you manual control of the shifts making things better. There are no complaints however when driving with a light foot and the gearbox shifts quickly with no hesitation. There are drive modes as well like Comfort, Efficiency, Auto and even Individual, and my favourite has to be the Dynamic mode where throttle response, gearbox and the steering gets more aggressive, perfect for spirited driving.
2021 Audi A4 Ride, Handling & Safety
The A4 comes with a soft suspension setup focused on comfort, ride quality is really good and the car feels composed while going over undulations and road irregularities. There is body roll going around corners but nothing that will unsettle you or the car. The steering also feels well weighted and gets tighter as you go faster. I like that. High speed stability is excellent and braking is efficient as well.
The safety kit includes eight airbags, ABS, Stability Control, Auto Park Assist, front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera.
