Ferrari has taken the warps of their latest drop top model, the F8Spider. The Ferrari F8Spider is the convertible version of the F8 Tributo and replaces the 488 Spider in the Prancing Horse’s model lineup.
The F8Spider comes with a retractable hard top (RHT) that is stowed in two parts on top of the engine. The top can be opened or closed in just 14 seconds at speeds upto 45 kph. It is 20 kg lighter than its predecessor and weighs just 20 kg more than the extreme 488 Pista Spider. It is significantly more aerodynamically efficient, too and features the new 6.1 version of the Side Slip Angle Control system.
Power comes from the same 3.9 litre twin turbo V8 engine that is seen in the F8 Tributo. The motor puts out a mega 720 hp at 8,000 rpm and 770 Nm torque coming in at 3,250 rpm. This propels the F8Spider from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 340 kph. The engine is mated to an F1 derived 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.
To achieve the 50 horsepower increase in power compared to the 488 Spider, the new intake line is derived directly from the 488 Challenge. In the F8 Spider, the air intakes have been moved from the flanks to the rear where they are located on either side of the blown spoiler and are directly connected to the intake plenums. This drastically reduces losses and ensures greater air flow to the engine, thereby increasing the power. The air flow also benefits from increased dynamic pressure created by the shape of the rear spoiler.
The rev limiter’s “Wall Effect” strategy cuts off right at the 8,000 rpm red-line, maximising the amount of power available in power-on dynamic driving situations and consequently improving lap times.
The interior of the F8Spider is identical to that of its coupe stable mate. The dash is driver focussed and features new circular AC vents, a new steering wheel and a 7 inch touch screen passenger display. As always, the interiors will be fully customisable.
The Ferrari F8Spider is expected to reach Indian shores in the second half of 2020.
