Jaguar XJ50 Engine, Performance, Handling

Power comes from a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine that puts out 301 horsepower and 689 Nm of torque that comes up from as early as 1800 rpm. The motor is very rev happy and while there is a hint of initial lag, it shoots forward once the turbo kicks in. It isnt the most refined motor around and gets vocal towards the red line. That said, there is fantastic mid-range punch and you really don’t feel the size of the car. The eight speed automatic gearbox has smooth shifts and performance gets even better once you switch to Dynamic mode. The tacho and speedo switch places on the instrument cluster in this mode too. In manual mode, the gearbox holds the upshift until u pull the paddle shifter.

Ride quality is comfortable, though on the stiffer side due to the suspension setup. Small undulations can be felt inside the cabin but it isnt all that bad either. On the other hand, handling is fantastic and the XJ feels very engaging to drive despite the size. Body roll is well controlled and you end up forgetting that this 5.2 metre luxury limo. Grip from the wide rubber is good and high speed stability is great too. Braking is fantastic with excellent stopping power.

Safety features include multiple airbags, Emergency Brake Assist, Pedestrian Contact Sensing, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist etc.
