2017 Mercedes E-Class E350d Interior

For a change, let me talk about the interiors starting from the rear this time. This E-Class is spacious and how. There is so much of legroom that you might think you are sitting in the S-Class (or Maybach). The rear seats are easily the best in class and they recline electrically by 37 degrees.  You can just go off to sleep without bothering about the world outside, the cabin is that well insulated. What’s more, you get the soft pillow style headrests from the S-Class and they are simply amazing. The front passenger seat can also be controlled from the rear so that you can have even more legroom.  There are switches in the doors for both, windows and the sun blinds. There are a total of four AC vents at the rear, two in the centre and two in the B pillars. The high transmission tunnel will make it difficult for a third passenger so seating is best for two. The middle back rest folds down to become an armrest. Strangely there are no cup holders for the rear passengers and you cant even operate the audio controls from the rear seat. Also missing is the soft touch door closing function.The dashboard feels right out of the S-Class. There is a feel of top notch quality on every component that you touch. There is fantastic open pore black ashwood spread across the dashboard. There is a new 12.3 inch display for the infotainment system but it is not a touch screen. It can be controlled via the jog dial and touchpad on the centre console.  Unlike the car abroad, the India spec E-Class gets analogue dials for the instrument cluster and a digital MID in the centre. The three spoke steering features two touch buttons on either side. While the left can be used to operate the touch screen, the right one can be used for the MID. The infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.  The AC vents are finished beautifully and we like the small analogue clock in the centre. The new E-Class features ambient lighting in 64 different colours, which is controlled via the infotainment system.

The front seats are large and very supportive. They feature electric adjust and the front passenger seat can even be adjusted from the driver’s side. The ARTICO leather makes the seats extremely comfortable. There is a 590 W Burmester sound system with 13 speaker that will keep the music aficionados happy. Other features include Themotronic automatic climate control, a large panoramic sunroof and keyless Go. The E350d also gets a 360 camera that is very helpful but will work overtime considering how close cars get in bumper to bumper traffic. There is a boot capacity of 540 litres but the spare wheel eats into boot space as it is tied down to the surface of the boot floor.
